Managing Your Energy – Honoring the Seasons and Your Prana

As the weather begins to shift and the days grow longer, you might notice changes in your mood and energy levels. These fluctuations are not just coincidental; they’re a reminder that we are deeply connected to the natural world. We are creatures of the elements, and when we honor the seasons and align with the rhythm of nature, we find balance. Similarly, when we honor our own energy—our prana—we become unstoppable.


The Power of Honoring Your Energy


Understanding and managing your energy cycles is essential, especially during times of transition like the change from winter to spring. The increased sunlight and warmth naturally boost our energy, but it’s equally important to recognize when to rest and rejuvenate.

For example, our business was recently nominated for the Australian Women's Small Business Champion Awards. This was a significant achievement, considering there were over 3,000 entries, and only 200 finalists were selected across Australia. The awards dinner was a grand affair—black tie, with a room filled with 700 people. As finalists stepped onto the stage to accept their awards, you could see their nerves manifesting in trembling hands. The energy in the room was palpable.

The night took an unexpected turn when a presenter fainted on stage. Thankfully, there were doctors present to assist, and she was okay. However, the incident served as a stark reminder of how easily our energy can be depleted when we’re under pressure. The event, originally scheduled to end earlier, stretched longer than anticipated, with our category announced around 10 PM—well past my usual bedtime. The combination of nerves, excitement, and the sheer length of the evening left me utterly drained.

Though we didn’t take home the award, the experience was both inspiring and exhausting. The winners were a remarkable dance company from out of state, with a story of resilience that was truly deserving of recognition. Their journey, like that of many of us running small businesses, is a testament to the importance of perseverance and managing our energy wisely.


Energy Management: The Key to Balance


The takeaway from this experience is clear: managing your energy is crucial. Ask yourself, “What are my energy leaks? Am I giving away energy where it’s not needed? Do I allow myself adequate rest after big events?” These questions are essential for maintaining balance in your life and business.

Energy leaks can occur in many forms—overcommitting, pushing through exhaustion, or engaging in activities that drain rather than replenish you. Recognizing these leaks and addressing them is the first step toward sustaining your energy.


Restoring Your Energy on the Mat


One of the best ways to restore your energy is through a consistent yoga practice. Yoga helps you tune into your body’s needs, allowing you to recharge and find equilibrium. Whether you’re flowing through sun salutations or sinking into restorative poses, each movement is an opportunity to reconnect with your prana.

As we gather on the mat, we create space to honor our energy cycles. We rest when needed and move with intention when necessary. It’s all about balance—just like the ebb and flow of the seasons.
